Madeline's Loses her First Tooth!

every kid looks forward to losing their first tooth, but i think little siblings are even more anxious.  after watching Anna lose 9 teeth, Madeline has been anxiously awaiting her moment.  she felt the first wigglings weeks ago.  then the tooth became really loose.  then she showed us how different she is from her sister, by treating the tooth VERY gingerly over the last several days, almost never wiggling it, or playing with it at all.  she refused every offer to help it along, even the dentist couldn't convince her to tug it out.  then, while brushing her teeth, Colin tried to grab her toothbrush causing it to bump that tooth just the right way. finally, she lost that first tooth!
it's amazing how small it is compared to Anna's.  she has Jason's teeth and Anna mine.

i found these toys in their room last week and had Avery put them in the toy room where they belong. tonight I was chastised because Madeline had placed them there in preparation for the loss of her tooth.  my bad.  so, the girls went to work creating a luxurious oasis for the tooth fairy.  there's a spa to relax in,some treats to enjoy, a bed if she needs a nap, and to top it off princesses and ponies hold up a "Welcome Tooth Fairy" sign.

the pixie dust Madeline discovered the next morning confirmed the fairy did indeed take a break in the hot tub but probably didn't have time for a nap.  she also apparently loved the sign, because there was pixie dust all over it.  i know Avery is dying to lose a tooth, i'm not sure the pageantry is appreciated by Colin.

how to communicate with fairies

Anna has been losing teeth like crazy lately.  the tooth fairy has made several trips to our house.  Anna likes to make it special for when the tooth fairy comes by:
Anna likes to start and end all correspondence with "love."  when i explained that letters usually start with "dear" and end with "love", she said, "shouldn't everything be love mom?"   how can you argue with that.

here's how this letter goes, "love tooth fairy, i know that you get so many teeth.  i want you to be happy, so i make you happy.  love, Anna."
she makes her a bed, complete with a ladder for the travel-weary fairy.
a hot tub, to sooth those tired wings.
and a sitting area with snacks, to regain some energy.
unfortunately, the night of this particular lost tooth, there was a big lightning storm.  now you may not know this, but lightning can interfere with a fairies communication receptors and cause her to not realize you've lost a tooth.  so when she didn't come that night, we thought she may need a reminder message.

here's how you communicate with a fairy.  first, you write a letter telling her about your lost tooth.
then you use something that the fairy has touched and rub it on the letter.  here, we used Anna's tooth case that she puts each lost tooth in.

then you make a wish and blow it onto your now charmed letter.
then, get your mom and dad to help you burn the letter.  the magic smoke will float up and reach the fairy to give her the message.

after that, the message was received and the tooth fairy left a dollar under Anna's pillow.  she also wrote a sweet little letter of apology for the weather delay.  ;)

Anna loses her 1st tooth!

for some reason i thought milestones were supposed to be expected.  a baby doesn't just stand up and walk one day, first she cruises on the furniture, tests out standing on her own....

i thought teeth felt loose for a while, the child wiggles it with her tongue, days pass, anxiously awaiting the big moment...not so much in this house.  one minute Anna comes to me with an apple and says, "this apple is gross mom, it's got red stuff all over it."  i'm nursing colin, i glance at the apple.  it does have a reddish/brownish tinge.  i say, "throw it away and get another.'  she leaves.

2 minutes late i hear her in the bathroom, "mom, i think my tooth is gone."  me, "what, come here!?!?!"

the tooth is in fact gone.  and lost, we think she swallowed it, checked the trash, the floor, the apple, it's gone.  i don't know why, but i felt a little robbed of the moment.
Anna didn't feel robbed tough.  after leaving an explanatory note, the toothfairy still left her a dollar!
